It's important to recognize when you need help managing stress and the emotional toll you may face.

Whether you're looking for one-on-one counselling, group therapy, or peer support networks where you can connect with others who understand your experience, we've got you covered.

Remember, you're not alone. Reaching out for support is an important step in caring for yourself.


Spirituality can help you maintain your health and cope with difficult experiences. Our spiritual care professionals will help you express your feelings and concerns in a way that honours your values and beliefs.

Spiritual care professionals are employed by UHN and trained to work with people in the hospital. You do not have to be religious to benefit from spiritual care. Spiritual care is for anyone seeking personal growth or coping with change, illness or loss.

Spiritual Care also has a bereavement support group to help you if you have lost someone.

Ask a staff member or hospital volunteer to contact a spiritual care professional for you, or call one of the numbers listed below.

The Caring for the Caregiver Clinic is part of the Psychosocial Oncology Clinic at Princess Margaret. It was created to provide clinical care, research and education to meet the needs of caregivers.

Caregivers of Princess Margaret Cancer Centre patients can get a referral from their healthcare providers.

A psychologist will ask you some questions to understand your main concerns and support needs.

At the end of the appointment, you and the psychologist will discuss a plan to address your needs. Your plan can include suggestions or referrals to other resources within the hospital or the community.

Contact the Clinic

Although caregivers of patients who are treated outside of the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre cannot be referred to the clinic, anyone can visit Caring for the Caregiver to access resources.

This online course is part of the Princess Margaret Caregivers Program that aims to give you information and tools to use in your caregiving role and promote your well-being.

Topics covered include cancer and treatment, strategies for organizing daily dynamics, decision-making skills, self-care, clinical care skills and more.

The Ontario Caregiver Organization (OCO) exists to improve the lives of Ontario's four million caregivers.

The OCO supports caregivers by being your one point of access to information so you have what you need to be successful in your role.

Access free programs and services, including:

  • a 24/7 caregiver helpline at 1 833 416 2273
  • 1:1 peer support that connects you with another caregiver
  • online support groups with other caregivers
  • an online learning library with information on different health conditions and how to manage care for another person
  • specific resources for working caregivers, young caregivers, Indigenous caregivers, Black caregivers and communities and members of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community
  • and more.

The Seniors and Caregivers Support Service (SCSS) Unit at Family Service Toronto provides free social work services to older people and caregivers.

Services include counselling (in person or by telephone), support groups and education sessions.

As the caregiver of an aging parent, relative or friend, their trained counsellors will help you:

  • deal with caregiver stress, anger and guilt
  • learn important communication techniques
  • develop strategies for coping with burnout
