The Radiation Medicine Program (RMP) at the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre welcomes learners including trainees, practising radiation oncologists, physicists and radiation therapists. Learners often come from external institutions with different levels of training and expertise to experience our practice environment.

We offer three levels of observerships including General, UHN Personalized Learning Plan (PLP) and Executive PLP. The three programs differ by the goal of the observership, depth of experience and recommended duration. A registration fee applies, consistent with the administrative and teaching commitment required for each program.

Interested applicants are encouraged to begin the application process at least 6 months prior to the intended start date of their observership.

Types of RMP Observerships Offered at Princess Margaret

The Radiation Medicine Program (RMP) at Princess Margaret offers outstanding summer research opportunities for students. Research preceptors work with students to gradually immerse them in the professional milieu. The summer student program offers a wide range of programs and technologies in a supportive, collegial interprofessional work environment.

General Observerships

These 1- to 2-week observerships are recommended for trainees and radiation medicine professionals interested in a sampling of our practice environment. Learners are assigned to various clinics or front-line settings and are exposed to state-of-the-art facilities and clinical care.

UHN Personalized Learning Plans (PLPs)

UHN PLPs can range from 1 to 12 weeks in duration and are designed to provide a customized learning plan, developed with our learners. A UHN certificate of completion is provided at the end of the observership.

Executive Personalized Learning Plans (PLPs)

These highly personalized observerships are recommended for a 3- to 6-month duration. Executive PLPs are designed to address the practical learning needs of radiation medicine healthcare professionals around the world. These plans offer exemplary education in advanced radiotherapy practice and delivery. Executive PLPs are structured learning programs that immerse the learner in our environment and use a number of learning strategies including tutorials, mentorship, electronic modules and participation in our interdisciplinary teaching courses where available.
