The Magnetic Resonance guided Radiation Therapy (MRgRT) suite at the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre is the first-of-its-kind in Canada. Our facility consists of a full strength, open bore magnetic resonance imaging device on rails, which moves between a linear accelerator and a High Dose Rate (HDR) brachytherapy suite. It is one of the few facilities in Canada where MR guided brachytherapy is available and the first facility containing HDR brachytherapy suite, MRI and linear accelerators in the same suite.

MRgRT combines medical imaging with radiation therapy (RT) to allow for a more precise visualization of internal bodily structures immediately before or during radiation treatments. This lets the radiation treatment be more precise, maximizing the amount of radiation reaching the tumour while minimizing the amount of radiation reaching healthy tissues.

This MRgRT suite operates in a coordinated fashion to assure safe and efficient MRgRT treatment for our patients. The improved precision that our suite offers enables our patients to have better outcomes and quality of life. Patients may be referred through the departmental referral process or by contacting: info@rmp.uhn.ca.
