We are dedicated to helping individuals living with and affected by food and weight preoccupation and eating disorders, including anorexia, bulimia and binge eating. We provide:
- Information, referrals and support through our website and helpline
- A searchable online directory of more than 700 resources and treatment services in Canada
- Print materials that you can take away, including brochures, manuals and posters
As Canada's only national organization dedicated to helping people affected by eating disorders and related issues, we also actively seek to prevent eating disorders through many initiatives, including:
- Body image and self-esteem workshops for students, such as Beyond Images, a turn-key curriculum developed for grades 4 through 8 that fills a gap in media literacy education nationally
- Programs created in collaboration with community groups, including Girl Guides of Canada and Boys & Girls Clubs of Canada, to promote positive body image and self-esteem and to prevent eating disorders
- A bi-annual national conference, NEDIC's Body Image and Self-Esteem conference for anyone interested in these issues, including health professionals, educators, and members of the general
- Eating Disorder Awareness Week, an annual event to raise awareness and celebrate our diversity of shapes and sizes
We work closely with other health care professionals, offering training sessions for health care professionals and consultation to other groups establishing eating disorder programs and services and developing informational materials.
The National Eating Disorder Information Centre is a non-profit organization and part of the Eating Disorder Program at UHN.
