Our goal is to learn more about viral hepatitis and other liver diseases on basic scientific levels and from clinical studies, so that we can help improve lives of patients with liver disease.

Basic science is where all medical research starts. Our particular interest is in viral hepatitis B and C, liver cancer and fibrosis. We are working to understand why the virus behaves differently in different people, how the immune system works to attack the virus, and how to improve treatment. Research labs of

Clinical research enables us to use innovative approaches to manage our patients with different types of liver disease. We study new investigational drugs and tools to find safer and the most effective treatments for patients with liver disease. We also design clinical studies to better understand the effects and affects of liver disease on people. We have numerous ongoing treatment trials on hepatitis B, C, autoimmune hepatitis, liver cancer, liver fibrosis and portal hypertension.
Clinical trials are key for advancing medical knowledge and patient care. As an international well-known liver center, we collaborate with global industry organizations and health care institutions such as the US National Institute of Health, in developing innovative treatment and care strategies for our patients.
There are many benefits in taking part in new drug trials. You will gain access to new treatments at no costs before they are approved. If you don't get the new treatment being tested, you will still get the standard of care for your condition. The effectiveness of newer treatments is usually better than or will be just as good as the standard of care. You will also benefit from close monitoring of your health conditions by a research team and by the Data and Safety Monitoring Board.
