Have you ever heard the expression "you are what you eat?"

Beyond being a common expression there is actually a scientific area of study which looks at the interaction between food and genes in relation to disease development.

Nutrigenomics is the study of food at a molecular level and how it can impact the development and prevention of disease.

Dr. Igor Jurisica is a computational biologist and Senior Scientist at the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre. In the video above he explains his growing interest in nutrigenomics and discusses his recent study published in Nature's Scientific Reports.

The study demonstrated the molecular mechanism at play in a class of vegetable believed to have anti-cancer properties.
