What are my weekly review appointments for?
You will have weekly appointments with your doctor (Radiation Oncologist) and nurse. The reason for these appointments is to check on how you are doing with your treatment. It is important for you to ask questions and tell your doctor, nurse and radiation therapist how you are feeling.
When will I have my weekly review appointment?
Your review appointments will be on the same day each week. This appointment is already booked for you. It will be printed on your weekly treatment schedule. Your radiation therapist will remind you of the appointment.
How can I prepare for my weekly review appointment?
If you have any questions or concerns, it is important to talk to your doctor and nurse about them. You may find it helpful to write your questions down and bring them with you to the review appointments. This will let your doctor, nurse and therapist see how you are doing and help you better manage your care and treatment.
To help you prepare and come up with questions for your review appointment, here are some things to consider:
- Do you understand everything that is happening with your treatment?
- Are you having any side effects or symptoms from your treatment?
- Do you feel or see any changes in the treatment area?
- Have you felt any changes since your last appointment or since starting treatment (e.g. nausea, mouth pain, anxiety, changes in sleep, eating and drinking)?
- Do you need any new medicine? Are you running low on medicine you are taking? Do you have enough medicine until your next visit with the doctor?
- How are you coping with treatment? What may be causing difficulty for you? Are you getting enough support from friends and family?
- Are you having any difficulty getting to your appointments (transportation)?
- Do you have any financial problems or difficulty paying for medicine or supplies you need for your care?
