Loud, disruptive snoring could be (but isn't always) a sign of sleep apnea, a common condition in which breathing may stop and start many times throughout the night.

You may be aware that sleep apnea can disrupt your sleep and cause fatigue, but did you know that it can also impact your heart, your brain – even your sex drive?

Dr. Douglas Bradley  
Dr. Douglas Bradley

Dr. Douglas Bradley is the Director of UHN’s Centre for Sleep Health and Research and a Professor of Medicine at the University of Toronto. His clinical and research work focuses on the relationship between sleep apnea and cardiovascular diseases, with a particular focus on the pathophysiology and treatment of sleep apnea in heart failure. Dr. Bradley has published over 275 papers and book chapters on sleep apnea and related topics. Dr. Bradley is also a co-founder and Chief Medical Officer of a company, BresoTEC Inc. that has developed a unique home sleep apnea diagnostic device that records tracheal breath sounds and motion during sleep and analyzes them via machine learning.


Frances Chung  
Dr. Frances Chung

Dr. Frances Chung is an anesthesiologist and the ResMed Chair in Anesthesia, Perioperative, and Sleep Medicine Research at UHN, as well as a Professor of the Department of Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine at the University of Toronto. Dr. Chung has published over 400 papers and is co-Founder and Past President of the Society of Anesthesia and Sleep Medicine. In 2023, she won the UHN Inventor of the Year award for creating the STOP-Bang Questionnaire, a screening tool for sleep apnea, which is being used by clinicians around the world and NASA!

Carmen Chu  
Carmen Chu

Carmen Chu was originally born in Hong Kong, and immigrated to Toronto as a teenager. With a great passion in the non-profit sector, she has held different roles over the past 18 years, ranging from event management, public relations, marketing and major gift fundraising. Currently, Carmen supports her team in gift implementation for a major hospital foundation in downtown Toronto. At her leisure, she enjoys travelling and spending time with her friends and family. She lives in Unionville with her husband and two young children.
