Referrals

Now accepting Ocean eReferrals

This clinic is now accepting referrals through Ocean eReferral to help everyone save time and increase efficiency.

For urgent referrals, please fax a referral letter to the Epilepsy Pregnancy Clinic at 416 603 5768, address it to Dr. Bui and mark it as URGENT.

Please note that only physicians may send a referral. Please send an Ocean eReferral or fax the following when referring your patient:

  • A referral letter
  • Any available serum drug levels

Please ensure the patient is on folate 1-5mg once a day. Our office will call the patient with details about their first appointment. Your office may be responsible for providing the patient with the appointment information, including time and location, and important documents, test results and imaging that they must bring. It is extremely important to ensure that your patient brings the following, as these will be required at their first appointment.

  • EEG Report
  • Epilepsy Monitoring Unit Report (if done)
  • MRI scans (on disc)
Please note that clinic appointments may be virtual visits. The clinic team will let you know what type of appointment is appropriate for your care. Learn more about virtual visits at UHN »

What We Do

Epilepsy is a neurological disorder characterized by different types of seizures. Although medical experts have gained a better understanding of the condition, they are still investigating the many causes and triggers for seizures.

Some known risk factors for seizures are variations in hormones, lack of sleep and stress – all of which are exacerbated during pregnancy and while caring for young children – which can make this phase of life especially challenging for women with epilepsy.

Although it may require some extra attention, planning and support from the patient's family, here at Krembil Brain Institute, it is possible for these patients to successfully become mothers.
