Your single lung transplant surgery will take approximately 6 or more hours. Your double lung transplant surgery may take up to 12 hours. Before surgery, the transplant team will examine you, test your blood, and order chest x-rays to ensure that you are ready. Our dedicated transplant team will make every effort to ensure your surgery runs smoothly and comfortably.

After surgery, you will wake up in the Medical Surgical Intensive Care Unit (MSICU). The average stay there is 4 to 7 days, but varies depending on your recovery. You will then be moved to Transplant Acute Care Unit for several days. As you improve, you will then be moved to the Transplant Unit. Here, you'll learn about your new life with a transplant, the medications you'll need, and how to take them properly.
