patient and health professional having a conversation

A clinical trial is a type of research study that tests new treatments or procedures on people who choose to participate. Clinical trials are usually the last step in a long process. The process begins with many years of laboratory research to understand how the treatment or procedure works and what side effects it might cause. If results from these studies are promising, researchers can then move on to developing clinical trials involving people.
