Eligibility Requirements:
Intern must currently be enrolled in OR must have obtained a Masters in Music Therapy. Verbal counselling skills are an asset. An interest in clinical research skills will also be helpful.

Duration:
May-August (approx. 480-500 hours onsite).

Clinical Components:
This offering is focused on music psychotherapy; psychosocial oncology and palliative care, multidisciplinary music therapy involvement, medical intervention support, pain and symptom management, emotional processing, medical assistance in dying, applications of music psychotherapy to advanced cancer. Clinical supervision will also be provided.

The intern must be able to conduct individualized clinical assessments, and provide music therapy using a number of intervention styles. A strong working knowledge of clinical improvisation, various musical genres and styles, as well as vocal skills are required. Chart documentation, participation in interdisciplinary rounds along with a commitment to working as a part of several diverse interdisciplinary teams are expected. One lecture/performance for hospital staff also required.

Duration:

• Year 1: Jan-May
• Year 2/Advanced Standing: September-April
• Summer practicum: May/June-August

* Dependent on the individual university requirements, this opportunity is usually 3-4 days per week.

Clinical Components:
The Master of Social Work Education Program provides students with training in the competencies required to practise in the profession of social work as members of the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers. This training focuses on a hospital-based oncology practice that includes:

• Life cycle of cancer care
• Theoretical frameworks informing oncology social work practice (such as systems, life stage, role, grief and crisis)
• Patient- and family-specific psychosocial needs in cancer
• Death and dying
• Palliative and hospice care
• Culture and diversity within the cancer experience
• Specialized clinical interventions with cancer populations

Eligibility Requirements:
MA and PhD Graduate Students with previous experience in direct patient clinical contact (preference for applicants to have worked with oncology patients).

Duration:
Sept 15th to June 15th (9 months).

Clinical Components:

• Population: brain tumor patients; adult survivors of childhood cancer; young adult cancer survivors
• Clinical Assessments: neuropsychological assessment
• Clinical Intervention: education; recommendations/strategies

Research Components:
Neurocognitive outcomes in cancer survivors; late effects of cancer treatment on neurocognitive function; circadian rhythms and cancer.

Currently, there are 5 Fieldwork blocks:

• Introductory Fieldwork Experience: (2 + 3 days with clinical partners and 2 + 3 days with university instructors)
• Fieldwork 1: 6 weeks at 5 days per week
• Fieldwork 2: 8 weeks at 5 days per week
• Fieldwork 3: 8 weeks at 4 days per week
• Fieldwork 4: 8 weeks at 5 days per week

Clinical Components:
Fieldwork education is an exciting opportunity to consolidate academic learning with clinical learning and develop professional behaviou​rs and competencies. It gives students an understanding of the nature of occupational therapy practice in a variety of settings. Throughout the fieldwork experience students will have a broad range of learning opportunities, working with clients across the lifespan and across the health care continuum in the areas of both psychosocial and physical health.
