What We Do

The Wharton Head and Neck Centre is dedicated to managing cancers of the head and neck (not including the brain). At the Wharton Head and Neck Centre, cancer experts on your team work closely with you to ensure you get the best care possible.

If you are having difficulties with your hearing or balance, ask your doctor about a referral to the Centre for Advanced Hearing and Balance Testing.

Join for a discussion with head and neck cancer survivors.​ Survivors will share their personal experiences through the cancer journey and beyond. All survivors, current patients, family and staff are welcome to join the event!

          Introduction to Radiation Therapy of the Head & Neck

          ​Learn what it will be like to have radiation treatment. Find out how to work with your health care team to get through your treatment successfully.

          Radiation Swallowing Exercises

          This video will teach you how to perform simple swallowing exercises that will help you with your swallowing during your radiation treatment. By doing these exercises you can help to minimize the impact on your swallowing function and minimize the long-term use of a feeding tube. These exercises also minimize the need for a modified diet such as puree or only liquid diet, in the future. ​

          Caring for Your Tracheostomy

          Learning to care for a tracheostomy can be very stressful for you and your family. Our team at Princess Margaret Cancer Centre is here to support you. This 8-part video series is meant to assist patients who now have a tracheostomy because of head and neck surgery and/or a head and neck cancer diagnosis.

          ​Know About Human Papillomavirus (HPV)

          In this video series, you will learn general information about the human papillomavirus (HPV) including how common it is in the general population, how it is spread from one person to another, and how it can cause cancer in some people. You will also learn about treatment for HPV-related oropharyngeal head and neck cancers, about the HPV vaccine, and how HPV-related head and neck cancer can cause a mix of emotions.
