Patients and their caregivers at Princess Margaret Cancer Centre (PM) and the University Health Network (UHN) receive world-class treatment of their disease. Patients and caregivers deserve equally outstanding attention to their personal experience across the journey of care.
The UHN Cancer Experience Program:
- Addresses the need for cancer care that is not only medically rigorous, but also empathic, inclusive, diverse, equitable and accessible for all
- Aims to infuse comfort and confidence into every interaction to support the wellbeing of patients, caregivers, healthcare providers, and trainees
- Ensures that essential information and guidance is available to patients and caregivers as they navigate through the complex system of care

Background
In 2020, The Princess Margaret's leadership team identified Cancer Experience as a top priority to elevate the experience of patients, caregivers and our healthcare providers. Dr. Gary Rodin, the founder and former Head of the Department of Supportive Care at The Princess Margaret, was appointed as the inaugural Director of the UHN Cancer Experience Program.
Vision
To support and develop initiatives that improve the interconnected wellbeing of patients, families, caregivers, staff and trainees in the Cancer Program. The ultimate goal of the Cancer Experience Program is to ensure that cancer care and opportunities for staff and trainees are inclusive and equitable.
