“Wheels of Hope” Transportation Service, Canadian Cancer Society
Volunteer drivers can take you to and back from your cancer-related medical and support care appointments if:
- your appointment is with a health care professional
- you are registered with the Canadian Cancer Society
All transportation services are arranged locally. Call at least 4 business days before your appointment. Contact for more information.
There is an annual fee of $100 or $200. This depends on your appointment. Call for more information.

Wheel-Trans Service, Toronto Transit Commission (TTC)
This service offers door-to-door transit service for people with physical disabilities. Accessible buses and sedan taxis are used to meet any special needs. This service is available anywhere within Toronto for a regular TTC fare. Wheel-Trans is covered for some registered users. To apply for covered Wheel-Trans service, you will need to attend an in-person interview. Contact Wheel-Trans for more information or to book an interview. There is a fee for this service.

Canadian Red Cross Society
You can use the Society’s van service or have a volunteer driver take you to and from your appointments. The cost of this service depends on your financial situation. Call the number below to find the office closest to you.

Parking at the hospital - Getting a parking permit
Accessible Parking Permits (APP)
If you have trouble walking more than 200 metres, you should apply for an Accessible Parking Permit. This permit will let you or your driver park in handicapped spots and use street parking without charge. You will need to apply for an APP which will include a health exam. To apply for an APP, please contact the Ontario Ministry of Transportation or ask your hospital social worker. You will also need your doctor’s help to complete part of the application.

Parking passes
Princess Margaret does not have its own parking lot. There are many public parking lots behind the hospital on Murray Street. Frequent patients, families, and visitors can also get reduced parking rates at UHN’s lot at 201 Elizabeth Street, behind Toronto General Hospital. You can buy a parking pass Monday to Friday.
- A discount of 50% off the daily maximum rate is applied
- 5, 10, and 30-day parking passes are available

Places to Stay - Cancer specific accommodations
Princess Margaret Lodge
The Princess Margaret Lodge provides a low-cost place to stay for patients who come to Toronto for cancer treatments. This includes 3 meals a day, Monday to Friday. The Lodge is also offered to family members when there is space. There is a shuttle bus that can take you to and from Princess Margaret Cancer Centre. There is a fee for this service. Medical Interpretation Services
Interpretation services in the hospitals are there for patients who have trouble speaking and understanding English. Interpreters can be booked for all clinic visits, programs and services. You can call or ask your doctor or nurse to arrange for an interpreter for your clinic visit.
A medical interpreter can also be booked for a patient education session at UHN by calling 416 581 8604. An advance notice of 5 days is required.
There is no fee for this service.
