The Division of General Internal Medicine & Geriatrics is comprised of two groups of physician specialists:
Internal Medicine (IM) physicians and
geriatricians. We have 68 full-time faculty across three sites: Toronto Western Hospital, Toronto General Hospital and Sinai Health System. Our specialists are leaders at the local, national and international level. Not only do we provide this in our inpatient clinical teaching units, but our faculty are also renowned researchers in fields such as quality improvement, innovation, health equity, and health services research.
Clinically, Internal Medicine specialists are the "Swiss Army Knife" of medicine – a nimble team of problem solvers who diagnose and care for patients with complex multisystem medical conditions. They are experts at the diagnosis and management of both acute and chronic multisystem diseases. During the height of the pandemic, this included leading the hospital's COVID-19 physicians alongside colleagues in critical care and emergency medicine – 70 per cent of inpatient COVID-19 care was provided by our division.
