Outpatient Clinics
As an outpatient, you do not stay in the hospital overnight. Outpatients are typically treated in one of
our clinics, similar to a clinic run by your family doctor. As an outpatient, you may also be sent for tests – such as blood work or medical imaging – in one of
our test centres. If you are having day
surgery that does not require you to stay overnight, you may also be considered an outpatient.
People who are staying overnight in the hospital are considered inpatients. We have many different inpatient units, for surgery, critical care or longer stays such as rehab. We also provide
Palliative Care services and
long-term rehab care.
If you are coming to UHN for a test, such as an ultrasound or an MRI, or blood work, learn about
our tests and what to expect.

If you are a rehab patient, you will visit one of five Toronto Rehab locations, where we offer outpatient rehab care, as well as short-term and long-term rehab stays. You may also be transferred within UHN, for example, from our stroke or cardiac areas, to one of our rehab locations as you progress through your recovery. Find out about our
rehab services.
