Hospitals are required to bill a co-payment charge to patients for the use of an ambulance, in accordance with provincial legislation in Ontario (Health Insurance Act, Regulation 552).
The following rates are set by the Ontario Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care:
For a patient with a valid health card (OHIP card)
$45
For a patient who requests ambulance services for reasons that are not medically necessary
$240
For a patient with a valid health card from another province or territory
$240
For a patient who does not have a valid provincial or territorial health card or who is a non-resident of Canada
$240
Please note: We are unable to follow up about outstanding bills for ambulance services due to the large volume of invoices issued for these services. Unpaid ambulance bills will be sent to our external collection agency 15 days after we issue the final invoice to you.
