Vision loss can affect people of all ages.

Today, more than 5.5 million Canadians live with eye diseases, such as glaucoma, age-related macular degeneration and cataracts, and this number is expected to double over the next 20 years. Learn more about common eye diseases and eye health.

At the Donald K. Johnson Eye Institute, located at Toronto Western Hospital, which is part of the University Health Network, more than 50 clinicians and scientists are working together at the forefront of innovation, conducting cutting-edge research and developing new treatments for blindness and vision loss. The Institute is home to one of the largest and most comprehensive clinical eye programs in North America, with more than 120,800 patient visits across nine clinics/services and over 6,000 surgeries performed every year. Learn more about our eye institute and what we do.

The Donald K. Johnson Eye Institute is one of six divisions of the Krembil Research Institute. Here, vision researchers collaborate with other research leaders working on age-related neurodegeneration, autoimmunity, neuro-immunology and arthritis. Learn more about our research programs.
