About Us

We provide complex joint replacements, foot and ankle care, fracture repair and minimally invasive reconstructive surgery to patients from across Ontario, including elite athletes and patients in under-serviced northern regions. An integral part of the Arthritis Program, the Division consists of 10 surgeons providing care for Ontarians with complex musculoskeletal disorders, with a specific focus on arthritis.

We treat more than 2,200 inpatients and 35,000 outpatients annually and the Division has the largest volume of complex joint replacement surgeries in the Greater Toronto Area. Utilizing the most current technology and specializing in handling complex cases, we act as a referral centre for orthopedic patients from across the province and country.

Our team of surgeons works with nurses, physiotherapists and other health care workers in the pre-operative, operative and post-operative stages, ensuring patients receive the proper attention through all phases of their treatment. With a patient-centred approach our goal is to return patients to their everyday activities as soon as possible.

Research & Education

Research fuels our high-quality patient care, as the Orthopedic Surgery Division works to better understand arthritis and other conditions that affect the joints. Our surgeons are actively involved in leading-edge orthopedic research – both clinical studies and basic science research – and are committed to bringing improved techniques and treatments to patients.

We are committed to scientific and clinical impact in improving care for arthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, osteoporosis, and the proximity of basic researchers and clinician-scientists provides the full spectrum of expertise required to make discoveries in basic, translational and clinical research. We continue to strive to establish ourselves as the premier hospital for all arthritis research.

Through our collaboration with the medical school at the University of Toronto, we are fostering the development of the best surgical leaders of tomorrow. We are one of North America's largest teaching centres for orthopedic surgeons, giving medical students a unique hands-on education experience. Not only do interns and fellows learn the latest surgical techniques, but their research skills are also honed with the goal that they one day lead medical discovery.​
